As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for his two-day state visit to Mauritius on March 11-12, Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius Anurag Srivastava described the relationship between the two nations as “truly special” and expressed optimism about agreements in areas like maritime security and capacity building.

“This is a truly special relationship that has matured into a very strong, robust, and multifaceted partnership. This partnership spans areas like maritime security cooperation, development partnership, capacity building, health, education, and various other sectors,” Srivastava told ANI.

He further stated that the meetings between the two Prime Ministers—Modi and his Mauritian counterpart, Naveen Chandra Ramgoolam—are expected to result in significant agreements and announcements. “We anticipate important agreements in the areas of maritime security to advance our maritime security partnership, as well as in capacity building and other areas,” Srivastava added.

PM Modi’s visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Ramgoolam, and on March 12, he will attend Mauritius’ National Day celebrations as the chief guest.

Highlighting the strong historical and cultural bonds between the two countries, Srivastava noted that the India-Mauritius relationship is built on shared history, culture, and heritage. “This relationship also encompasses significant elements of capacity building, cooperation in health and education, and strong trade and investment ties. This visit is expected to further strengthen and advance these ties across various dimensions,” he said.

When asked about preparations for PM Modi’s visit, Srivastava revealed that a large community reception has been organized, where a substantial number of people are expected to participate. “For the National Day celebrations, we will have an Indian marching contingent and an Indian naval ship arriving in Mauritius specifically for this occasion. Additionally, the Akash Ganga skydiving team will participate in the ceremony,” he added.
